Dress Code

Constitutional violations occur far too common at Highland Park High School. Articles about controversial subjects written for student newspapers are censored. Lockers and backpacks are searched without reasonable suspicion. Minority students get excessively thrust in lower level programs. Teachers and school administrators officially sanction majoritarian religious practices. Although a modern day Henry might sound ridiculous addressing the issue by saying “…Give me tight skirts and spaghetti strap shirts or give me death!” the implied message still remains: The existing dress code obstructs a student’s capability to express themselves freely and grow as individuals because it restricts their creativity, individuality, and freedom of expression.
