Ethics In the late sixty's, pushed by competition, the Ford Motor Company made a decision to design a new subcompact car, the Pinto. Their main goal was to build a car that would be below 2,000 pounds and sell for less than 2,000 dollars. They shortened the time for preproduction testing and development from forty-three months to a little over two years that revealed the gas tank had been put in an unsafe position close to the
morally responsible for introducing the potentially unsafe car to a market, and eventually for human’s “burnt deaths.” They did not behave as individuals at a high level of moral development; they did not follow the ethical and moral rules that were accepted by the society. It was the company’s direct responsibility to inform the customers of a problem. It would have prevented many deaths and would have saved the Ford Company’s reputation.
