Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions
Flatland is a very interesting and thought-provoking book about a square’s adventures in lands of different dimensions. A. Square, a mathematician in a two-dimensional world, visits Spaceland, a land of three-dimension, Lineland, a land of one dimension, and Pointland, a land of no dimensions. In these very different places, A. Square learns about geometry as well as human character. The book begins with an introduction to Flatland. The narrator tells us about the life
he must have gone about in this way because the narrator of the story, A. Square, had visited flatland and therefore could relate to his readers as the author may have wanted. He comments to his readers about the difficulties that they may experience in understanding Flatland many times, and I believe that by creating Flatland through the process of deleting a dimension he helped his readers to better understand the world as a plane.
