Francisco Goya
The Encarta Encyclopedia defines fresco painting as watercolor on fresh plaster. This kind of artwork is the keystone to the works of Francisco Goya. Throughout his life he had used fresco as a way of self-expression as he tried to become and did succeed at becoming one of the last of the Old Masters (Richard, G01). He followed a period of romanticism as he was influenced by the works of Anton Raphael Mengs, and brought
the family of King Charles IV. In 1803 Goya’ s lifelong friend Martin Zapater died. This man was one of his best friends in which he would write letters to, confiding many things about his life including his relationship with the Duchess of Alba. After seeing the suffering and brutality of war, Goya rebelled against the artists’ of his day.
