Brandon Cook Humn 33XX 23 April 2002 Frankenstein vs. Hollywood The creature in Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein is probably the most well-known horror creature in Western civilization. If one even mentions the name of Frankenstein, many people immediately picture the monster in their head. This is undeniably a direct effect of Hollywood. This conclusion is easily obtainable by reading the text of Frankenstein: the only character that is referred to by that name is Doctor Frankenstein, not
telling him about his saga. The doctor gets real sick from traveling in the sub-zero temperatures and eventually dies before he can catch the monster. As soon as he dies, the monster boards the ship and expresses his remorse to Walton for all of the hideous crimes that he committed. Finally, the novel ends with the monster leaving the ship with the intentions of burning himself to death. Kenneth Brauman’s version of the story
