He devoted his life to the abolition of slavery; this man was Frederick Douglass. Douglass was born in 1818 in Tuckahoe, Maryland. He could be considered by some the Martin Luther King Jr. of the 1800’s. As Sandra Thomas said in her biography of Frederick Douglass: “Frederick Douglass provided a powerful voice for human rights during his period in American history and is still revered today for his contributions against racial injustice.”
