Freud's psychosexual stages of development
Freud split his theory of Psychosexual Development into five stages. They are: oral, anal, phallic, latency, and genital, each occurring sequentially according to age. The first stage occurs from birth to about fifteen months. A child’s primary source of pleasure is derived from things going in or coming out of the its mouth. The mothers breast, for instance, is the child’s source of food and is also a source for oral stimulation. If
the ego may occur if a child is not able to put its energy into external social outlets. The genital stage happens at the onset of pubetry. The individual is becoming more sexually mature and is entering the adult phase of development. They become sexual beings during this stage and the main source of pleasure is derived from this new expression. This is the last phase and lasts the longest of all of the stages.
