might, after a penal conflagration”. The author is comparing the isles to the world after a burning fire. She goes on to talk about the abandoned cemeteries and old cities tumbling to their ruin. In line 31 the author states, “cut by the equator, they know not autumn, and they know not spring”. In this line the author uses poetry to describe the never changing forests.
