The Great Schism From 1305 to 1416, the Catholic Church reached its lowest point in history. Corruption was widespread, the Church’s authority was undermined, and its leadership was divided. It was truly a learning experience for the people, for this is the first time the church had been questioned, the first time the pope was not given supremacy.
