Homosexuality: a choice or born with it? Part of the hostility toward homosexuality comes from the common assumption that it is a ‘lifestyle choice’. Realistically speaking, someone cannot just "decide" to be gay. If someone maintains that he or she is gay, but is not attracted to members of his/her own gender, then he/she is not truly a homosexual. …of all the stigmas, fears and violent acts directed at them by the society? When confronted with the possibility of isolation for leading a "taboo" lifestyle, being granted few (if any) legal rights or protections, who would freely decide to be homosexual? Hence the only choice involved with being gay is when a person decides between living in the closet and hiding behind a facade, or deciding to accept, acknowledge and be who they are.
