Huckleberry Finn Controversy

Words. It is amazing how powerful a word or one sentence can be. As young children, we were always taught growing up to watch what we say and be respectful. Huckleberry Finn was not taught that way. He was written as a boy who spoke his mind. Mark Twain, who wrote the story, told it through Huck’s perspective. From his viewpoint came major problems. Many readers disapproved of Huck’s views, actions and words. …

…in the story as casual dialogue, mainly to show the truth about the Old South. (Salwan) In conclusion, Huckleberry Finn is a classic that has caused a major controversy. The problems itself, when reflected upon, are only minor. It seems that anyone can make a big thing out of something so little. The novel was written during the time of slavery. It teaches us how it was back then and not how it is now.
