I, William Shakespeare, wrote the play Henry V to commemorate a great English monarch. Henry the V’s father was called Bullingbrook and was Henry IV in an earlier play I wrote. The king before Bullingbrook was Richard II. Bullingbrook wasn’t happy with the way he was treated by Richard II. Richard II didn’t trust Bullingbrook and he banished him to France to prevent him from stealing his crown. Richard II also kept
long and short words, which gave away, the way Henry would have spoken them. There is also a great deal of patriotism in the play. The reason I wrote my play when I did was because England had just won the Spanish Armada after having a long period of time without any wars and it was an appropriate time for me to write a patriotic play with all the feelings of national unity.
