They proved that opposition to laws and tradition can be achieved, that it is essential to take pride in all that one does, getting an education is important in everybody’s lives, and women from the Dominican Republic in the 1950’s could be, and were, heroes. After the fall of the Trujillo regime, the sister’s story was heard worldwide. Patria, Dede, Minerva, and Maria Teresa became role models to women everywhere.
