From business to book to movie to nature For John Krakauer, Mt. Everest had always been something he looked up to, “secretly, I dreamed of ascending Everest myself one day; for more than a decade it remained a burning ambition” (Krakauer 23). He had climbed many mountains before, but climbing Everest was the greatest challenge left for him to accomplish. It was a mountain feared by many but conquered by few, and Krakauer wanted to be
overwhelming mass and confusion” (Krakauer 16). Not only did Everest support this theory alone, but also, as more and more people climbed it, that support strengthened even more. Krakauer himself knew how dangerous Everest was, but instead of that stopping him, it only brought him closer. For society, seeing nature as dangerous and challenging, gave them obstacles to achieve and goals to set, with many succeeding, but even more not realizing how dangerous it really was.
