Israel

Israel is a small country located in southwest Asia. It occupies the eastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea. Jordan is located to its east and Lebanon is to its north. The capital of Israel is Jerusalem, which is also the largest city, however most countries do not recognize it as the capital. As prime minister of Israel from 1977 until his resignation in 1983, he maintained a hard line on his country’s security interests and was determined to hold on to territories Israel captured in the Arab-Israeli War of 1967. Begin also worked with Egyptian President Anwar al-Sadat to reach a peaceful coexistence between the two countries. The two leaders shared the 1978 Nobel Peace Prize.
