John Winston Lennon was born at 6:30 pm on 9 October 1940 at Oxford Street Maternity Hospital, Liverpool, to Julia and Alfred Lennon. The seaport of Liverpool had been subject to heavy raids by the Luftwaffe that week but on the night of John’s birth, there was a lull in the bombing. …and at the end of the year decided to go into semi-retirement and rear Sean personally. He was to describe himself as a ‘house husband’ during this period. In late August 1980 he began recording his first album in six years and agreed to a number of interviews prior to him becoming active in the music scene once again. On 8 December he was shot dead outside the Dakota Building. A day the world will never forgot.
