Justice Is Blind

The age in Athens in which Draco, a noble, lived, was an age of disorder. Athens drastically needed a code of law. Without one they feared civil war would begin. Draco, therefore, was appointed to draw one up. This code was very similar to Hammurabi’s code, but was not based on it. Like Hammurabi, Draco believed that punishment for crimes should be harsh. …survive and greatly feared the severe punishments set by Draco. On the other side, the lower class favored being judged the same as the middle and upper classes. As we can see, Draco’s code of laws were very harsh, but this introduced a very important concept, justice is blind. This idea still thrives in today’s legal system. Although Draco’s laws were soon abolished and disorder continued, his ideas influence us still today.
