Lawrence of Arabia
Thomas Edward Lawrence, called Lawrence of Arabia was born in 1888 and died in a motorcycle accident in 1935. Thomas was born in Tremadoc, Wales , and attended the University of Oxford. In 1910 he went on a archaeological expedition to the ancient Hittite city of Carchemish (located in Turkey), and then went to Sinai, where he learned Arabic. He wrote of his experiences in The Wilderness of Zin (1915). When World War 1 began in 1914, he joined the British Military
Faisal entered Damascus before the British army. Lawrence however was unsuccessful in his efforts to gain Arab independence. Lawrence was a very important person for the Arab revolution because he along with prince Faisal organized the Arab armed forces and beat off the Turks. Unfortunately after being discharged in 1935 he was killed in a motorcycle accident in Dorset.
