…got to see his family one last time. The Confederates did not surrender until May of 1865, after several innocent soldiers from both sides had lost their lives. The country had been torn apart and the lives of many Americans has been changed forever, but reconstruction was on its way and the United States was united once again. Hopefully it will never come to this, and the North and South can peacefully live forever has one.
