Heathcliff and Catherine allow themselves to be manipulated by a false sense of profound love. Their relationship is based on subordinate emotions that have diminished the significance of love. Their feelings include lust, obsession and jealousy. These are superficial feelings which pretend to show affection, however in reality divert to the depletion of love.
