Macbeth Q: Who is most responsible for Duncan’s death? The witches, Macbeth, or Lady Macbeth. Out of the three characters responsible for Duncan’s death, I feel the three witches are most guilty. …out their plan. Because they performed and talked in a certain way to get Macbeth to commit murder I believe the witches planned Duncans death and are most responsible for it. The witches consistently tried to get Macbeth focused on becoming king. By doing so they purposely caused Macbeth to murder Duncan. Through their prior knowledge of outcomes and their active involvement, I believe the three witches are most responsible for the death of Duncan.
