Macbeth
Authority is represented in many different ways in the drama of the Renaissance period. Looking different leaders in the different texts and the way that they use their power and authority and how it affects the other characters in the plays one can see this. In Shakespeare’s play Macbeth, one can see very clearly how authority is represented and the methods and principles behind the power. The plot involves Macbeth trying to gain more
and authority. So it is in fact their own principles of power that bring them down in the end. By looking at five examples of Shakespeare’s authoritative figures from four different plays, the reader can see how authority can be represented differently and also share some of the same characteristics. Each of these authoritative figures had different methods and principles of power and were each represented differently in their respected plays because of it.
