Throughout the epic poem, the Odyssey, Odysseus and his men encounter many dangerous threats to their nosdos, or homecoming. …the Odyssey illustrates to men that many women will attempt to manipulate and dominate. Successful men, such as Odysseus, should be able to prevent female domination. The message of the Circe episode is for men to mentally and physically strong, keeping reality in mind before indulging in pleasure. Once Circe is “put in her place” by Odysseus, her withdrawal helps him significantly by contributing to his heroism and improving his credibility as a role model.
