Man’s Inhumanity To Man “…then my knees bent and I jounced the limb.” In John Knowles’s novel, A Separate Peace, Gene’s jealousy of Phineas builds up to such an extreme level, that he releases all of it in that instance, and knocks him out of the tree. People’s emotions can cause them to do very inhumane acts. An example of this was when Gene knocks Finny out of the tree. Another
inhumane acts to one another. We don’t always mean to do what we do, but, the fact is, we do them, and in one way or another, we must pay for it. Gene pays for it in the worst way, through the death of his best friend, Phineas. Leper loses his mind because of inhumane acts. We may not pay for these acts though jail-time, but we can, and do pay through our emotions.
