…evidence of our ancestors fighting for us to have better lives. The theme of this painting is struggle. The title, Mixed Blood, suggests violence of opposing forces. Meaning that both Native American and European blood were spilt during the struggle for survival. I think that Quick-to-See Smith was very successful in expressing the issues of the Native Americans struggle to survive throughout history. It is a very powerful painting with both obvious and deeper meaning.
