…The aforementioned works are fine examples of Literature from the Naturalism era. They both display how people are not entirely in control of their situations, and that fate plays an extensive role. They do not display characters that would be considered heroic, or extraordinary in any sense. Rather, their circumstances make them so. The characters in both of these works encountered dilemmas which may indeed be rather commonplace matters, but are by no means trivial.
