…conclusion, some cultures are better than others. This assessment is based on the only appropriate criterion to judge a society: man at his best. We stand for the values that make human life possible. Values such as freedom, individualism, reason, science and productive achievement made us prosper. Even if some of those ideals have never been completely fulfilled, they are the ultimate values of Western civilization. Those arguments support my decision to stay in Omelas.
