Oppression of Women
Oppression of women in the 1800’s was commonplace. Women were not given the right to freedom nor to express individual thoughts and views. Women were seen as property rather than human beings. In Kate Chopin’s The Story of an Hour, she demonstrates through Louise Mallard the struggles she must overcome from a loveless marriage and an unfulfilled life. Louise experiences longing from barriers that her husband, marriage and society have placed on her need
demonstrated these struggles through a young widow who dreams of the wonderful things that life may hold yet can not grasp until a tragic turn of events allows Louise to free herself of these longings. Tragically, Louise is not given the time in life to live these realizations. In learning this, one should embrace ones dreams and live them no matter what, for you never know what surprises life may have in store for you.
