Men have argued over it, fought over it, and even killed over it. It comes in the form of respect and can be achieved in various ways, depending on culture and traditions. What is it? A little thing called pride. Society demands that whether or not how “manly” one is depends on the honor and respect he attains. …s. He retained some pride from all of that, so indeed he was successful. Obviously, Shakespeare did not make Othello and Iago alike for any particular reason. Men in the Elizabethan time period lived in the world where self image, as being tough, important and honorable was important. This human relationship among men still exists today. Darwinism scientifically shows “survival of the fittest.” Therefore, the view that pride equals importance influences Shakespeare’s Othello immensely.
