Poverty in America A topic that is always current, in that it is a problem that will never be truly eradicated, is that of poverty. In the United States, almost 13 percent of the population lives below the poverty line. This information, and my interest in the subject, helped me form three questions. What is poverty? …the world deems poverty to be relative poverty. Relative poverty is the revised definition. I also explored how people come to be in a situation of poverty, and I discovered that there is always a variety of reasons, and some people cannot help being in the situation. Finally, I discovered what has been done in the past to fight poverty. I now can see exactly how poverty is an ongoing problem that needs constant attention.
