George Pullman was born on March 3, 1831 in Brocton, New York, but was raised in Portland. His philosophy of labor was the effect of his religious upbringing in the Universalist Church. He was too much of a parent to town, making the corporation keep a watchful eye over it. Not allowing the people to vote or make any decisions concerning the town. Just making a pretty town to live in wasn’t enough.
