…of him. He began to treat them unfairly. In every sense of the word, Kurtz was indeed a failure. He was once praised as an honorable man, but he became a thief, a murderer, and much more. He lost being known as an honorable man. Most importantly, he failed in getting back to Europe. Kurtz died knowing that he was a failure and says it best in his last words: “ the horror, the horror” (pg 153).
