Reconstruction: A Doomed Idea From the Beginning

After the defeat of the Confederate forces in the Civil War, and their “acceptance” back into America, something needed to be done to help the newly abolished slaves, and to rebuild and reconstruct the remains of the South. This period after the war was deemed Reconstruction. The main focus of it was to help the ex-slaves establish a life and for the South to accept them as free citizens. …of the Republicans, it was just doomed from the beginning, and got worse as it went. Had some of the presidents after Lincoln taken a more aggressive approach to Reconstruction and supported the Republican Radicals, it may have worked better. But, because of the very small amount of support put forth by the citizens, the industrialists, the entire southern United States, and even politicians, Reconstruction just did not have the power behind it to work.
