…think. One has to be his own man. Mr. McMurphy's sense of self was a direct response to his interactions with authority. He found it ridiculous how others tried to make him be and act a certain way. Society's own definition of "self" was absolutely false in his mind and he stopped at nothing to try to prove his point. He was like Baby Suggs because he responded to society by becoming independent of it.
