Religion in Public Schools The question “Should prayer be allowed in public schools” is one of the biggest debates in the minds and lips of Americans today. The open practice of religion in publicly funded schools is not a new debate, nor a simple one. Americans have been fighting about the separation of church and state issue longer than there have been Americans. These arguments have played out everywhere from the local football field to
the first amendment reads: “Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof”. This means that the government shall not teach religion, but not hinder citizens from practicing it in public. Therefore, I am for the secularity of the tax-funded public school because of the fact that there is no real way, let alone need, to integrate all religions in to public education further than they already are.
