Roots: Resistance vs. Assimilation

In order to analyze the characters in “Roots,” one must first take into consideration the reoccurring themes that correspond with the characters. There are two resurfacing themes in “Roots.” Those themes are resistance and assimilation. Each character in the movies embodies at least one, if no both of these themes. A lot of black people would rather blame things on “the man” than to make a change and become “the man,” or “the woman.” If there were more slaves like Kunta, maybe blacks would not be on of the economically and educationally challenged races in America.
