Save the Last Dance Review

Julia Stiles hits another homerun with her latest release, Save the Last Dance. It opened in theaters January 2001. Frankly, there aren't many teen movies that don't insult one's intelligence. Often, they're either preachy or total fluff. Save the last Dance is one of the exceptions. Its main characters aren't "dumb kids" as we’re all too used to seeing; they are quite the opposite. …very likable character, is impressive as well. Kerry Washington's Chenille is believable, even in a couple of otherwise less exciting scenes. The director, Thomas Carter, does a good job at having the characters indirectly expose their feelings and play out their instincts. He has created an environment in which he’s able to pump up the interracial intensity and is not afraid to generate enough honest emotion to play against the predictability of its finish.
