During the last fifteen years concern has been growing regarding the shortage of teachers in New York City. The nation doesn’t produce enough teachers and shortages of qualified candidates in particular fields (mathematics and science) and particular locations (primarily inner city and rural) are chronic. Our teachers can teach better and there is a great potential here. The United States won’t solve the problem by importing teachers from other countries. We should search for the root of the problem inside the country.
