However in both “Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl” and “Our Nig,” Jacobs and Wilson demonstrate how there is a disparity between religious values and actions bestowed upon their slaves. They do this by showing how the oppressors repeatedly violate the rule of God and how these violations affected the oppressed physical well-being, their limitations, and their mental health.
