Sir Gawain and the Green Knight
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight In “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight”, Gawain stays at a castle in which three hunts take place. These three hunts are associated with the temptations made at Gawain by Lord Bercilak’s wife. In each hunt scene, a characteristic of the prey of that hunt is personified in Gawain’s defense against the temptations brought upon by the Lord’s wife. The first temptation that was brought upon
only weakness, Gawain’s cowardice has done him no good in acting as an honorable, God-fearing knight. It is evident in these temptations that Gawain was being tested. The final outcome of the story makes it possible to see that Lord Bercilak and his wife planned the hunts and temptations to coincide with each other. If this is true or not, Sir Gawain has proven his honor during his short stay at the Hautdesert Castle.
