Skill Technique
Topic: Skill Technique Bibliography Cites: Boggis, D. (1999). The key to better high jumping. Scholastic Coach & Athletic Director, 68, 38-39. SYNOPSIS: In this article, Mr. Don Boggis discusses the importance of techniques for becoming a successful high jumper. He points out four very important strategies deemed toward high jumping. The first of these is the proper run. Mr. Boggis begins by saying “a 10-stride approach will enable the athlete to run five strides in a straight line
produce the maximum controllable speed to the take-off point.” The jumper must work toward a gradual build-up of speed and rhythm. All in all, each and every one of these techniques must be practiced daily, with every skill being carefully observed. Once the athlete is consistently using the proper mechanics, the coach should check to see that everything is working right. If so, then the athlete is well on his way to a gold medal.
