Slavery vs Wage Labour

In the period before the civil war, events were happening which would prove to be destructive to the Union. The United States were roughly divided into two opposing groups – one pro-slavery, and the other pro-wage-labor. There are different primary documents that manifest the two views on the subject. …this was evident. For example – the main strength of the wage-labor system was that education was becoming available, and for free. That way worker children had a better chance to become literate and rise higher in the social ladder than poor children would in England or elsewhere. Slavery’s main weakness was that the American people were reaching more and more towards democracy. Slavery was against the Constitution, and the moral principles of the people.
