Socrates and the Theory of FOrms

Socrates, Parmenides, and the Unchanging World During the Hellenic Age, or the fourth and fifth centuries BC, in Athens, it was unconventional for a philosopher to profess to know anything about the gods. Although they were risking being labeled blasphemers, Parmenides and Socrates devised their own theories to explain the world. …taught the same basic idea, that which exists in the intelligible world is real, and that which exists in the sensible world is not. The ideas of Parmenides and Socrates, in a sense, still exist today. Their conceptions that what exists in the mind is what is important and what is real is evident in today’s practices of religion. Christians are constantly wondering what exists in reality and attempting to understand the intelligible world.
