The Battle of the Bulge, also known as Battle of the Ardennes, began on December 16, 1944 at about 5:30 in the morning. This was supposed to be Hitler’s last attempt on trying to defeat the Allied forces. He thought that the bond between the British, the US, and Russia was weak, so he didn’t have to worry about the three countries joining forces and outnumbering him. The American army lost about 81,000 men, with 23,554 captured. The Germans lost about 100,000 men who were either captured, wounded or killed. Hitler’s belief in his “greatest defense” turned out to be one of the worst defenses ever. The battle was nothing but a big disaster.
