A True Test When one lies he/she hurts his/her loved ones. The Crucible, an historical drama by Arthur Miller, portrays the story of the Salem witch trials of 1692. The Crucible illustrates how religion and government intermixed. John Proctor, the main character, commits adultery with Abigail Williams and his wife finds out about it. The idea of spirits presiding over people has the whole town of Salem fearing that witches might be among them.
