…became symbolic of the Jazz Age. They defined the American novel. Their actions did not represent a certain ethnicity, a certain religion, or even a certain nation. They represented an entire generation. A lost generation. They left the country they call home and returned to nightmares and the inability to live the same life. Through their writing and through their lives, these two authors provoked the world and, not quite literally, wrote the history books.
