The Joys of Motherhood

In Buchi Emecheta’s “The Joys of Motherhood” novel, the main character, Nnu Ego shows what it means to be a woman and a mother in Nigerian society. Also, Emecheta explores the idea that women having the ability to bear children are the only way to define femininity and womanhood in the novel. …The two novels show two different kinds of women, Nnu Ego and Catherine Barkley, have totally different point of views on the traditional role. Nnu Ego maintains the traditional role and she never thinks to against it in her all life. Catherine Barkley rejects the traditional role all of her time and she doesn’t care it anymore in the novel. The appearances are totally different. Nevertheless, both stories have a bad and sad ending.
