…Johnny was beaten by his father growing up. He knows how it feels to be hit, so he did not want to harm someone else, none the less kill someone. This is another example of how life is very rough when growing up in poverty. The Greasers, and The Socs couldn’t get along, so they fought instead. Look where this got them.
