The Pearl Movie/Book Comparison
The Pearl, written by John Steinbeck, is a touching story about a poor family whom finds a great pearl, which in turn helps them discover their dreams, but also the evil that lurks inside of them. Kino and Juana, the main characters, battle it out with human nature. The intriguing novelette was then made a movie, and it was directed by Emilio Fernandez and produced by Oscar Dancigers. Although the two versions have many similarities,
the texts, he howled—like a dog would. Then, in the film, Juana seemed scared, hurt, when Kino hit her and was angry, but in the text Juana was “unfrightened like a sheep before a butcher” (The Pearl, John Steinbeck, ). Significantly different were the ways Kino protected the pearl: In the video, Kino typically hid it under the Virgin Mary, but in great contrast, he buried it, a habit of many animals, in various places.
