The Roles of Women in Things Fall Apart
In the novel “things fall apart, by Chinua Achebe”, women in the Ibo tribe are terribly mistreated, and viewed as weak and receive little or no respect outside their role as a mother. The people in the Ibo tribe uses a description “Agbala”, which means that when ever a person is called Agbala, he is compared to a woman, who is weak, and pretty much worthless. Another example is when Okonkwo participates in the killing
by most people. They were not allowed to do a lot of things like a mere child can do now. The only purpose of their lives was either to be servants or slaves. They really had no obligations in their lives. The women in “things fall apart” , would just take care of their house, care and teach the children, and to serve their husbands. While the black people only duties are to serve the whites.
